Prayer of the Fox
by Victoria, 21

Oh Great Lord of Lords
this humble fox would entreat your
attention to pursue a subject he had
previously failed to mention.
I realize my toils
are trivial in Your world
and desire not to disrupt it,
as though into a lake, a rock hurled.
But Almighty One
what hath you wrought
with these malevolent humans,
for their hounds they have brought!
Hounds obviously unleashed
from that mythical lair,
I see Hades observing,
smirking at me with care.
Yelping and yapping, they stampede
my lover through the brush,
oblivious to the juvenescence
under their paws they crush.
And what follows them
close on their heels?
Estranged wickedness as though
murderous serpents and eels.
Freaks mounted astride
narcissistic mares,
sounding their horns
with emphatic blares.
Dare I not venture
beyond my earthen hollow,
in that behind me through the day
these creatures might follow.
And although no entity
be holier than Thou,
surely this heinous crime
You cannot allow.
I pray not just for me
but for all of my kind,
for it is the fox this
evil seeks to find.
I appeal to you with
but one request,
though with daily bread in
abundance, I am certainly blessed.
Thus, I choose not to impose upon
your sensational power...
but curse these bloody beasts
begat on Witches' Hour!
Now that I fear I have taken too
much time of your omniscient ears,
a proud British fox proclaims,
"Amen... and cheers!"
