Pray for the Sunrise
by Victoria, 21

You sit in the darkness
on a wooden bench
on a moonlit night.
No one left to
show you what's wrong
and what's right.
She's taught you your
tricks and got you
through all your years.
But now you're alone
and you've got to
face all your fears.
Like a shadow you perch
on the outer edge
just out of reach.
You hide yourself
behind stone walls
that no one can breach.
You search all around
hoping to find someone
who's just like you.
You call your name
and you listen, but
you hear nothing new.
You shed but one
droplet of blood
just like a tear.
You hold yourself
and look around;
there's nothing to fear.
Like a frightened
mouse you scurry
through deep, dark holes.
Center stage is set,
but you're playing
all the roles.
You cling to your
past as if it were
a shining star.
But it fades away
into nothing leaving you
with your pounding heart.
You close your eyes
and force back the tears
that threaten to flow.
They've tried to tell
you again and again,
but still you don't know.
Though she's gone
and left you with
a smile and a kiss,
you see your mother
crying on a bench...
just like this....
And you pray for the sunrise.
