Aggression
What is it? Aggression is that feeling
that makes a person want to frighten or hurt
someone else. All of us have been so
angry at one time or
another that we felt like bashing someone in the
face. But most of us don't act out those feelings
'cause we know how to control ourselves. We also
know that violence isn't cool.
Aggressive people don't like themselves very
much. Because they feel so lousy about
themselves they may try to pick fights, intimidate
(scare), threaten, or bully other people.
It's Not Only About Fighting. Sometimes
instead of physically fighting, aggressive people
go around arguing with everyone. Or they refuse to
cooperate. Or they mess up other people's property.
Or steal stuff. Or just find it impossible to get
along with anybody.
Extreme aggression usually gets
people in trouble with authority figures
(parents, teachers, principals, police) and makes
their lives difficult.
What To Do. If you feel you are
aggressive and out of control:
- Get some help!
- Talk to any adult you can trust. (A
teacher, a mental health professional, a school
counselor, etc.)
- There are things that you can do to change
your behavior and channel your energy into
positive outcomes!
